Snowbird finds perfect nest at Courthouse Square
Diane Jedlinski likes to fly the coop for Florida every winter, but she’ll soon be on a return flight to roost in a new luxury residence at Courthouse Square in Wheaton — site of the historic DuPage County Courthouse campus that is now a master-planned, mixed-use community featuring upscale condominiums by Focus Development.
Jedlinski had been living alone in a large single-family home in Glen Ellyn the past four years. While the digs offered plentiful square footage, it was simply too large for her lifestyle and required more routine maintenance than she desired.
Before long, the empty nester was on the home-hunting trail, scouring the surrounding area for her next address. While driving through Wheaton one day more than a year ago, fate led her past the future site of an ambitious new development called Courthouse Square.
When she visited the property, she was charmed by the courteous sales staff. Moreover, Jedlinski was wowed by the future community’s potential, especially considering its historic significance as the home of the 112-year-old DuPage County Courthouse building. She learned, in fact, that this famous clocktower-topped edifice would undergo a restoration and an interior conversion to accommodate six premiere luxury condominium residences a la Focus Development.
Jedlinski chose one of the six units: a second-floor, three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath, single-level condo that features a study, great room, tastefully appointed kitchen, fireplace and approximately 2,500 square feet, which offered plenty of elbow room for her lifestyle. She plans to take delivery in February.
"Aside from ultra convenient underground, indoor parking, my unit includes 11-foot ceilings and extra windows,” she said. “It’s also served by an elevator and it overlooks a nicely landscaped courtyard. Plus, as a resident I’ll have access to the community fitness center, outdoor pool and hospitality suite. Everything I could want is right here on the property.”
A handful of vintage-style condos inside the courthouse building are still available, priced from $849,900 to $1.9 million (all prices subject to change without notice). These deluxe, customizable condominiums each offer two to three bedrooms, two to three-and-a-half baths, a den and/or family room (per plan), and 2,251 to 4,683 square feet.
The community also includes three new seven-story buildings offering 182 condominium residences on the property’s west parcel. Buyers can choose from a limited number of condominiums remaining in Building I—including some ready for immediate delivery—each including one, two or three bedrooms, one to two-and-a-half baths and a den (per plan)—base priced from the $250,000s to the $580,000s. Square footages span approximately 800 to 2,000 square feet.
Shoppers can also select from 12 new designs in Building II, each providing one, two or three spacious bedrooms plus den, one to two-and-a-half bathrooms, kitchens with granite countertops and European-style cabinets, a large terrace or balcony, one deeded parking space, and between 790 to 2,200 square feet. Prices start in the $260,000s for one-bedroom units and in the $350,000s for two-bedroom units.
